Vinyl
Handrail
Our
vinyl handrail is primarily used with a stairway
railing as a secondary handrail for additional safety when
traveling up or down the stairs. Many building departments require this
additional "grip-able" rail as part of
their building code and in fact it is included in several
of the national codes. Check with your local building official
to determine if you must meet this requirement. A common
variation between local jurisdictions is how the ends of
the handrail are to be finished. The
simplest design is to use the End Cap without a return. The
second option, the one we prefer, is to "return" the handrail to
the end post by using the 90° Quick Return
Elbow. This approach is pictured on the right. Using
a "return" reduces the possibility of clothing
or straps getting caught on the handrail, causing a tripping
hazard. Again, check with your local building official to
find out the handrail requirement for your jurisdiction.

The 1 1/2" system meets the ADA
requirements as well as building code
requirements for 500lb. loads with a bracket every 6'.
A 3" Mounting Bracket is recommended at
every railing post. Railing posts should be spaced approximately
every 5'. A mounting bracket is not required on
the first and last post if a 90° Quick Return
Elbow is used.
The Aluminum Connector is necessary to connect multiple pieces
of handrail together.

additional parts for commercial or specialty
applications. Please call for more
