Transformers
Transformers are typically needed to reduce 120 volt A.C
house current to 12 volt A.C current.
However, the transformer has no way of
knowing the line of voltage. It simply
reduces the current by a factor of 10. Another
important note is that voltage will decrease
the further the current has to travel.
In order to compensate for this loss and the
variations in line voltage, some
transformers offer several output voltages.
These transformers are generally known as
multi-tap transformers and may offer voltage
outputs ranging from 10 volts to 14 volts.
This is a valuable feature for a system
designer wanting to have better control over
light output and lamp life.
Controls,
timers, and switches add to the convenience
and usability of your lighting system. For
example, by combining a timer switch with a
photocell switch, your lighting system will
operate only when it is dark and only as
late into the evening as you want it to. No
lack of security and no waste of energy.
To determine the proper size transformer to
buy, add the wattages of all the fixtures to
be connected. Take this total and divide it
by .8. Round off the result to the nearest
available transformer size. Example: Twelve
fixtures with 18 watt lamps. 12 x 18 = 216.
216/.8= 270. Closest transformer is 300
watts. Please call if you need help in
designing or ordering the components for
your system.

Wire
All of our wire is UL listed, and the quality is worth the
small additional cost. Two conductor, multi-stranded copper
cable Black PVC jacket U.V. stable, will not break down in sun
light
We recommend 12/2 for the supply line to most fixtures.
For very long runs, over 100', you may want to use 10/2 or
even 8/2 to get to the area where the fixtures are located to
minimize voltage drop. 18/2 and 16/2 are for supplying
individual fixtures such as tree mounted models.
